Bars closed this festive season? Here’s what to do instead 🚱

Bars closed this festive season? Here’s what to do instead 🚱

As we all know, bars have been closed all month due to the situation of rising COVID-19 cases.

In a recent press conference, the Prime Minister released a statement saying that this imposition (which was previously set to expire at the end of November) will remain in effect until further notice. This legal notice has spiked lots of frustration, especially from struggling bar owners. 😓

There won’t be many places to flock to during the holidays, since snack bars, kiosks and other places where people might crowd, have been banned from selling alcoholic beverages and forced to close at 11PM. In the past month restaurants remained the only establishment where one could go to grab a drink, and it seems like all will remain as is. 😔

Since going out at all is risky business in the current situation, we’ll have to skip out on enjoying the holidays with the usual parties and events this year. Despite this upsetting news, we do know it’s probably for the best, and luckily we foodies always know our way around a celebration - even if that means not grabbing any drinks with our family and friends. 🙌

What to do instead

Going out may be cancelled, but that doesn’t mean the holidays are. 🎉

Here’s a few ways you can celebrate the holidays from home, FoodBlog style:

Play bartender

Making your own boozy concoctions from the comfort of your homes is really great fun. Check out our article on Autumn Cocktails before the flavours go out of season (we know you’re not ready to let go of pumpkin spice just yet). Or if you’re looking for something more Christmas-inspired, check out some recipes here. 🍸

Bake your favourite Christmas treats

Baking is a great way to get the household together in a fun and lighthearted activity. It also doesn’t require that many people so if it’s just you and your roommate this holiday season, we’ve got you covered. It will also leave you with delicious snacks for when you’re bingeing Netflix while you’re off work. Calories don’t count on Christmas, right? 🍪

Prepare a fancy meal

Just because you won’t be attending (or hosting) the usual family meal, doesn’t mean you have to give it up altogether. Make an effort with the members of your household and have a proper Christmas celebration - tidy the dining room, set your table with the very best items you have, and cook up a Christmas meal (with at least 3 courses!). 🍽️

Do you agree with bars being closed?

You can celebrate in a responsible way this festive season - it’s important that we all enjoy ourselves while keeping each other safe. Because after all, the holidays are about family; and now’s the time more than ever to keep our family’s best interests in mind.
