Pro Pasta Places Part 1: the first 5 go-to pasta restaurants in Malta 🍝

When it comes to delicious Italian food in Malta, pasta dominates the conversation. With Malta being a stone’s throw away from the land of flavourful, creamy and precise pasta known as Italy, it’s not surprising that our own take on this classic food is something to be talked about.

Whether you’re into seasonal seafood spaghetti or fiery arrabbiata that make your senses come alive, you’ll always leave a pasta place in Malta with a strong urge to go back for more. 🤤

I know it can be difficult to settle on the right restaurant for the perfect pasta dish, what with all the tempting options out there. To help you out, I’ve compiled a list of our favourite pasta places in Malta you’ll want to eat at. 💪

ImPasta

Modern, genuine, amazing. Spread out over St Julian’s, Sliema and Valletta, the ImPasta franchise is loved among many for a number of reasons. ImPasta provides hungry guests with fresh sauces and homemade pasta made out of 5 different kinds of wheat. You’re also given the option to choose your favourite pasta, from rigatoni to penne to tagliatelle to pappardelle. If you’re a picky eater, you’ll love this! Indulge yourself in any of this pasta place’s appetising dishes for a satisfying experience. The Salsiccia, the Pesto Pistacchio and the Contadina are some of their most popular picks. 🍅

Trattoria Romana Zero Sei, Valletta

Treat your significant other to a date night out at Trattoria Romana Zero Sei, where divine dishes and an intimate location welcome guests hand in hand. This typical Italian trattoria is known for its mouthwatering selection of pasta as well as its delightful starters to start your night the right way. Reasonably priced and known to boast outstanding customer service, Trattoria Romana Zero Sei does not disappoint. While all of its pasta dishes have been said to please visitors, their Carbonara seems to continually stand out. After you’ve finished making plans to visit this place, have a look at our carbonara article to hear more about the best carbonara on the island. 🥓

The Avenue Restaurant, St Julian’s

Situated in the heart of St Julian’s, this cosy and well-loved restaurant is ideal for almost every occasion. While its menu boasts a vast selection of different foods including burgers, curries and meat, its pasta is, needless to say, phenomenal. Treat yourself to an exquisite plate of Penne Quattro Formaggi, Spaghetti Octopus, Fusilli Del Re and many more! A personal favourite of mine is the Tortellini Alla Crema. If you do happen to try this plate out, however, be careful. It will make you stay away from any other tortellini dishes that aren’t The Avenue's.  🥟

Rossini Cibo Vino, St Julian’s

If you’d like to get an immersive glimpse of what Italian cooking is really all about, be sure to visit Rossini Cibo Vino in St Julian’s. The restaurant’s menu boasts a sizeable, four page selection of exceptional wine (need I even go on?). After you’ve shared a bottle of Italy or Malta’s finest, you’ll want to try a plate of delicious pasta. I’d recommend the Black Ink Tortellini or the Pappardelle Crab, but anything you eat in this restaurant will taste amazing. 🦀

Hugo’s Pizza & Pasta, St Julian’s

Everyone knows that Hugo’s has been taking the entertainment scene in Malta by storm, but have they mastered the culinary scene? The answer needs no second guessing - yes. Hugo’s Pizza & Pasta offers a range of appetising pasta and risotto dishes that will satisfy the needs of any pasta lover. From cheesy dishes to vegetarian plates, mouthwatering food is guaranteed. I must say, however, that my favourite dishes are the Pappardelle al Pesto di Pistachio e Cozze and the Paccheri al Sugo di Calamari. Yum! 😋

BONUS: Fasta, Gzira

If you're looking for an authentic plate of pasta, but don't really have the time to stick around and wait for your meal to be served to you, why not head over to Fasta, the new-to-the-scene pasta house that serves up your favourite pasta dishes in no time. The flavour and quality of this quick-serve eatery is one to be noted in the "must-visit" books this summer, so do yourself a favour and add them to your list! Try the Cacio e Pepe, the Carbonara or literally anything else on the menu... everything is delish! 😍

So there you have it, spaghetti lovers… these pro pasta places will definitely get you started… 😗👌
