Here are FoodBlog's top restaurants for Maltese cuisine 🇲🇹

After going back to our childhood days thinking about the traditional Maltese dishes that made us so happy to be back home from school, we’ve gathered a list of restaurants that serve our favourite traditional meals. 😋

Whether you’re craving something homey but don’t feel like cooking, or you would like to introduce traditional Maltese food to a foreign friend, these places should be your go-to spots for local cuisine:

Diar il-Bniet

Diar il-Bniet is a gorgeous, quaint, little restaurant in Dingli. Their food is always made with the freshest ingredients, right from their own fields! Their menus are seasonal, depending on typical seasonal produce in the Maltese islands. Minestra, ravjul, timpana, kusksu, aljotta - whatever your Maltese heart desires, you’ll find it here. They even have a shop within the restaurant so you can buy homemade Maltese preserves and other traditional stuff - or head to their new shop in Naxxar for the freshest of veggies and more! 🥘

Gululu

Situated in the heart of St Julian’s, Gululu is a place where you can dig into delicious Maltese dishes with a beautiful view of the open waters. They have a special fenkata menu and another special menu for when you’re a large group, so you don’t have to wait for the others to choose what they’re going to eat. 🐰

Nenu the Artisan Baker

What better place to devour a traditional Maltese dish than in our gorgeous capital city? Nenu the Artisan Baker is located in both Valletta and Mgarr and it prides itself in serving heart-warming, authentic Maltese cuisine. Their traditional Maltese ftajjar, served like a pizza, are to die for! 🍞

Ta’ Kris Restaurant

This place does not only serve the most amazing Maltese food, it is also absolutely gorgeous. Ta’ Kris is situated in one of the oldest bakeries in Sliema, which gives it a truly authentic touch. Their menu boasts traditional Maltese dishes that are made with love: balbuljata, bebbux, bragoli, laham tal-brodu, rabbit, and even Maltese desserts! 🤤

Tac-Canti Bar & Restaurant

This place is one of those typical Maltese restaurants specialising in genuine Maltese cuisine - the place is not posh, but the people who make and serve your food are as Maltese as they come and some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Located in Mgarr, Tac-Canti serves amazing Maltese platters, horse meat, local fish, and their speciality: rabbit. 🍝

Mgarr United Bar & Restaurant

If feasting on a delicious rabbit is what you’re after, Mgarr United specialises in this local delicacy. As the name suggests, it is located in beautiful Mgarr and it is another one of those typical Maltese restaurants that serve good, homey, traditional food. Apart from rabbit, Mgarr United serves quail, horsemeat, and other non-Maltese dishes to cater for all. 😋

Maltese cuisine is full of history and just like the rest of our culture, it has been greatly influenced by other cultures along the years. 🙌
