Nenu the Artisan Baker keeping Maltese dishes traditional & delish š²š¹
We all love a good traditional Maltese feast, and if for some odd reason you donāt usually go utterly insane when a plate of nannuās bragoli is placed right in front of you, Nenu The Artisan Baker might be able to change your mind. š¤Æ
Finding a Maltese restaurant that specializes, not only in the curation of a āMalteseā menu, but also makes sure to stick to tradition and selective choice of ingredients, based on the food supplies native to the local cuisine. Letās elaborate on this a little⦠looking at Nenuās menu will transport you to a food haven that is pure, unfiltered, 100% Maltese cooking. š¤

A little glimpse at Nenu's magic - also available for take away - and equally delicious!
These guys go as far to kick that fungi to the curb - no mushrooms on this menu folks, theyāre not a true Maltese ingredient; so why include them in a Maltese menu? (Side note: did you even know mushrooms werenāt typical Maltese ingredients. Bet you feel smarter now.) š¤
Where can I get my Nenu fix?
Nenu The Artisan Baker has branched out to the Northern area of Malta, where his second shop, right near the Mgarr Parish Church is set to keep all those within range happy with their traditional ftajjar and other dishes of deliciousness. š
Speaking of ftajjar, did you know that Nenuās Valletta eatery found on St Dominic Street features a traditional oven dating back to WW2 and is still in use today? (Thereās a whole lot of learning going on here today, and we love it!) š„
So⦠back to the signature dish, apart from the vintage oven that creates the perfect base, the dough used to make these oh so tasty ftajjar is made from traditional bread dough. That might be what makes their signature dish a showstopper! š
What should I order at Nenu?
If youāre after a traditional ftira we suggest you try out the Taā Nenu where peppered gbejniet and Maltese sausage take their rightful throne, or maybe even the Fra Guzepp where a veggie dish lives up to its full Maltese profile. š«

Look at those tatoes! And that crust... and... ohhhh... gimme a slice!
But if you want to try out one of their odd combos, all of which give your life purpose after the first bite, you might want to devour Taā Karmnu l-Bidija - a meat feast feat. none other than the star of local meat produce... the pork belly. š·
Now if youāre local, or have been living here long enough, youāll know what no Maltese restaurant is complete without a mention, even if ever so slight, of fried local rabbit! Activate the drool-meter, fire up the foodie train and launch the non-stop āget in my bellyā anthem! Maltese food without rabbit is just drab, and the good olā guys at Nenuās would never let us down, now would they? š
Nenu The Artisan Baker, apart from their incredible bready-bits, serve up the most stunning rabbit dish that will take you to nannaās kitchen on steroids⦠itās like your grannyās with a touch of finesse. Their Fried Rabbit with Rabbit Jus is marinated in garlic and red wine, fried in olive oil and finished with a hint of rosemary to give your taste buds that oohh ahhh sensation! š

A fried rabbit dream, super tender, super fresh and packed with flavour!
If, and now weāre really judging you, you donātā¦erm⦠like⦠hmm⦠rabbit⦠heqhem⦠ohh, that was so hard to say, but if you are in fact a betrayer of your countryās national dish, perhaps the Pork Shank they whip up here will spark some fireworks for ye. š¤©
This porky treat comes slow-roasted and caramelized in honey and orange sauce. We can stop right there, but for the purposes of elaboration, weāll continue to say that this dish is tender, smooth, sweet - but not overly, perfectly crispy where it should be and ready to make your life complete. š

Who doesn't like a bit of pork shank on a sunny day! This was bomb!
Letās close you off with something sweet, maybe imqaret? Who doesnāt love a Maltese dinner⦠and with imqaret? OK, so hereās the ultimate recipe of what makes a dessert good. š
- Fried element - that dough though
- Something sweet - and dates are hella sweet
- A fresh touch - whatās more Maltese and refreshing than rose water and anisette?
- Something creamy - hello Maltese ice-cream!
I think weāve all been schooled enough today on the wonders of Maltese food, but donāt forget to end your meal with a cup of Maltese coffee, no espresso or cappuccino here mates, Nenuās keeping everything local! Like a boss! šÆ
