Trying to eat healthier? Start slow with these simple swaps! 😍

It's Thursday night. The weekend seems so close, yet so far. All you can think about is opening that food delivery app we all know and love, and clicking “place order”, but deep down, you know that you could whip up something delicious in an instant. 👌

Do you prefer cooking at home or eating out?

With recents statistics showing that over 25% of the Maltese population are classified as overweight, now is the time to take small steps towards a healthier diet. 🥗

Let’s have a look at some quick, easy and healthy swaps that you can incorporate into your cooking that can help you shift towards a healthier lifestyle:

The pasta swap

We all love a hearty slice of timpana for dinner but it really is carb overload! Don’t fret, slice up some veggies and chuck them into the ragu or swap the white pasta for some wholewheat. 🍝

The oil swap

Whip out that airfryer that has been collecting dust at the back of your cupboard! Try our favourite no fail airfryer recipe here and satisfy that need for crunchy food without the excess oil. 😋

The noodle swap

Jazz up your 2 minute noodles: Add a boiled egg, some leafy greens et voila, you have a full meal which still hits the spot. Healthier doesn’t mean flavourless. It's a small change which can go a long way. 🥰

The salt swap

Put down that salt shaker, hunny, and spice up your life in other ways! Use fresh herbs, lemon juice, vinegar or wine to add flavour to your meal whilst cutting down on that sodium intake. 🧂

The chocolate swap

We all love a ‘lil sugar in our lives, especially around Valentine’s Day, or Easter, or the weekend, or… you get the picture! I am chocolate-obsessed, but swapping out milk chocolate with a higher cocoa percentage bar can go a long way. When baking, think in halves and replace 50% of the chocolate chips with nuts or dried fruit instead. 🍫

If all else fails, most importantly, eat what you love in moderation and try your best to eat the rainbow (of vegetables… not skittles!). 👀
