Santa Maria Vibes: BBQ bites to eat while watching fireworks πŸŽ†

Santa Maria Vibes: BBQ bites to eat while watching fireworks πŸŽ†

Santa Maria is probably the biggest feast in Malta. During this time, companies are on shutdown, people take vacations and farmhouses in Gozo are all fully-booked. Feasts in Malta are accompanied by a spectacular show of fireworks and the Santa Maria ones are some of the best. 😎

This feast is also commonly associated with barbeques and, let's face it, what better way to enjoy the gorgeous fireworks than by sitting peacefully with a drink in one hand and something to eat in the other? Since you'll need to watch the show, your food needs to be bite-sized so that you won't miss a thing. So here are some great BBQ bites you can nibble on while watching the Santa Maria fireworks, besides a variety of sausages, of course. πŸŽ†

Corn on the cob

This is one of my favourite foods ever for a BBQ. Brush these little bad boys with some garlic butter and toss them on the grill and you've got the perfect thing to snack on. They're slightly sweet with a bit of zing from the garlic butter and they've got a whole lot of bite! Check out this recipe from @plantfulina that has a lovely kick! 🌽

Wings

Juicy, spicy and you can hold them in one hand - what else could you possibly want from a BBQ nibble? Wings are great for a BBQ night (or any time for that matter). Try this recipe for some killer buffalo wings. You can even buy Ferment Island's Blazin Buffalo Sauce to make things easier! Or order in from Novi via WOLT or Bolt Food. 🀀

Bruschetta

Bruschetta is the ultimate summer snack (apart from these other ones). The crunch of the lightly toasted bread (which tastes even better on a BBQ!) combined with the juicy tomatoes and the sharp, aromatic onions is just on another level. Here's an easy recipe for you to try. πŸ˜‹

Are you planning a BBQ for the Santa Maria fireworks?

Angels on Horsebacks

I'm not sure if these guys are as popular in other countries as they are in Malta. Sure, the famous fwied bil-bacon might not be as common for BBQs as they are for catered parties, but cooked on a BBQ the bacon gets a lovely crunch. Try this recipe out - it’s slightly different from the one we do in Malta. Feeling lazy? Ask James Caterers to sort you out!✌️

Pork belly bites

Pork belly cut up into bite-sized pieces, marinated and then cooked slowly on barbeque; doesn't that sound fantastic? The key for awesome flavour is in the marinade, so look for something slightly sweet yet still zingy, to give you that flavour balance. Check out this recipe for some inspo. 🐷

Garlic bread

There's something about garlic bread that is toasted on a BBQ that just hits differently. Garlic bread is always the bomb but when you're chilling and watching the Santa Maria fireworks, munching on garlic bread with a little extra crunch and a bit of a smokey taste is just all you need. 😌

Single ribs

A whole rack of ribs will not be easy to manoeuver if you're busy looking at something else which is not your plate, but that doesn't mean that you have to stay away from ribs. All you have to do is cut the rack up into single rib pieces and voila, bite-sized! If you're not sure how you want to cook them, you can try this recipe out. Chill vibes still soaring? Get your fix from Bianca's.πŸ‘Œ

Grilled honey carrots

You don't have to be staying away from meat to enjoy these babies. Carrots that have been tossed in honey, seasoned and grilled are such a delicious snack. You can use baby carrots and keep them whole or else just buy the normal-sized ones and cut them up into small, chunky strips. Here's a recipe to help you out. Enjoy! πŸ˜‰

What are your plans for the Santa Maria feast on the 15th of August? If you make any of these bite-sized bombshells, we want to know! So take some photos, share them and tag us! πŸ’ͺ
