Kyoto Bakery: what is Melon Bread, and where can I find it in Malta? đ

If youâre as big of a foodie as the rest of us here at FoodBlog, youâll have seen the trendy melon bread sweeping across Malta as summer came to a close. But what is it, exactly? Letâs find out together:
Head to the Pastry Park in Sliema, where youâll find the Kyoto Bakery.
A cute little three-table cafĂ© overflowing with character. Youâll be lulled inside by the sound of traditional Japanese singing, sure to put anyone in a good mood before theyâve had a sweet, soft bun. đŻđ”
Speaking of the buns, what are they exactly?
They're milk buns, similar to the white buns we're used to in the Western World. But because they're flavoured with all sorts of sweet surprises, they're usually coloured to match and given a crumbed outside to help keep the inside as soft as a heavenly cloud. âïž
Once inside Kyoto Bakery, youâll find the most adorable little set up with a rainbow of sweet buns to greet you. Donât be scared, they wonât bite. đ
What they will do, however, is melt in your mouth (an experience youâll never find anywhere else with bread) and soak up any bad vibes. âïž
The gang at Kyoto Bakery tend to keep the usual flavours of plain, melon and raspberry on a constant rotation. With a special flavour added every now and then (if you ever hear theyâre offering salted caramel then drop what youâre doing and grab a bun - you wonât regret it), with the addition of pistachio and matcha. đ”
The buns come as they are, nothing else is really needed. Their flavours are as light and poignant as the bread itself. Like a cloud of flavour. Paired with a freshly brewed green tea, your day will be nothing but good from here on out. âźïž
If youâre feeling cheeky (and why shouldnât you?), you can fill the buns with cream. But however you choose to take your buns, be sure to try out the other goodies on offer for the day.
If youâre there early enough, you might catch the joyful ladies behind the counter pulling fresh food straight from the oven. It couldnât get any better than that, really⊠except it can! They also serve Lot Sixty One coffee - which tells you all you need to know about how serious these folks are about keeping you satisfied. â
