Instagram-worthy restaurant Barbajean hot on the scene 📸

Barbajean is the name on everyone’s lips in Malta right now, after successfully launching their concept of hearty dishes that put Malta’s finest and freshest ingredients at the forefront of their menu.

But it isn’t just the totally Instagram-worthy dishes we should be ogling over, no, it is the passion teeming behind the restaurant doors that deserves some praise, too. 🙌

Yes, the food is absolutely delicious, but it is Chef and Owner Jean Dingli’s heart and soul that keeps the wheel turning for Barbajean. ðŸ¦‰

I caught up with Jean last August on a night out in Valletta and even back then you see the stars in his eyes when he mentioned his restaurant. While he was planning, originally, for a Christmas launch things would have been quite tightly scheduled, so he postponed and was then hit as hard as the rest of us when Miss Rona dropped in for a visit to Malta. ðŸ¤¬

But after launching just over 4 months ago, it’s clear to see how worth the wait it all was.

Every detail you see, from the restaurant floor to the chipped resin tabletops to the green upholstery that covers the majority of seats and the bar, even the owl incorporated into the logo design, Jean would recite as if it were his manifesto in leading the world into a new food revolution. ðŸ†•

Even the dishes that made the final cut, like the silk handkerchief pasta with roasted walnuts and parmesan cream (and a confit egg yolk to boot), were things Jean had decided on as far back as that night in August.

While the idea of hearty foods has always been something Malta has done well, what Barbajean does even better is the emulsification of Malta’s ingredients and the world’s cuisine.

Have you tried Barbajean yet?

Take the soft shell crab bao buns as an example: a perfect introduction to the Taiwanese street food favourite to all seafood lovers who might have had their taste buds travel as far across the seas just yet. ðŸ¦€

If you’re appetite doesn’t crave that much adventure, not to worry, you’ll find your favourite dishes on the menu, still, only elevated to the level of Barbajean - a level above the rest.

Whether it’s a burger on your mind, or a risotto, or even just a rib-eye, you’re in good hands. We only insist that you try the Maltese sausage scotch eggs. Your stomach will thank you for every single mouthful as ours did when we paid them a visit. ðŸ¤©
