Malta’s Snack Bar Saga: South Edition ✌️

We all love our local snack bars. They’re super chill, the owners are friendly, and they provide good food at a reasonable price. And who doesn’t love that? Snack bars are super popular around the island, and sometimes they’re a godsend for busy folks. 🙏🏻

If you’re in the southern area of Malta and you’re looking for a snack bar to grab a quick bite, here’s where you can head off to:

Plated Snack & Coffee Bar

This snack bar is located in Paola, one of the busiest towns in the south. They’re open as early as 5am from Monday to Saturday (and from 9am on Sunday, too!), up until 6pm from Monday to Thursday, and until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. You’ll find a great selection of food at Plated, including pizza! 🍕

Paramount Snack Bar

If you live in the south, then you definitely know about Paramount. They’re known for their gorgeous ftira biz-zejt, but anything else they make is super delicious! Paramount is located in Tarxien, just outside of Paola, and it is loved by many. 😍

Hibs Snack Bar

These guys are super popular amongst the people of Paola and the surrounding towns, and amongst Hibs supporters (obviously!). They were the winners of our Ftira Wars for their lovely fresh ftira biz-zejt. Hibs Snack Bar also offers daily specials, like lasagna, meatballs, baked rice, and much more! 😋

Four T’s

Four T’s might be known for being a pastizzeria, but they’re more than that! They serve a number of on-the-go snacks, like wraps, breads, salads, and even pasta. They’re located in Paola, Gzira, and Ghaxaq, with a full-on take-away service that includes pizza and grills from their Ghaxaq outlet. 😎

Spencer Take Away & Pizzeria

Located in Marsa, right outside Valletta Waterfront, Spencer Take Away & Pizzeria has been a family-run business for over 25 years, so it’s quite popular among the locals. Their menu is super varied, including fresh bread, pasta, kebab, wraps - even pizza and meats! 🥩

Y-lee Snack Bar

Y-lee Snack Bar makes fresh dishes every single day. And we’re not talking about just bread and quick snacks, but they make daily specials like pork chops, fried rice, minute steak, stir-fried noodles, and so much more! They still have the usual ftira, wraps, and pasta dishes, but everything’s done with so much love. Located in Gudja, these guys are quite impressive! 🤤

Take Off

Located in Luqa, this place makes some great hearty, homey dishes. They might not be on the web yet, but they’re quite popular amongst busy workers in the surrounding areas as well as runners (the owner is a runner himself!). Take Off is located close to the famous Luqa roundabout (you know which one). 😉

Welcome Bar & Grill

Breads, wraps, salads, breakfast, pies, pizza, burgers, pasta, grills - these are all things that you can find at Welcome Bar & Grill. They even make their own homemade chicken cordon bleu! This place is also located in Luqa and everything they make just looks so delicious. 🤩

Big Bun

This place is super popular amongst the people of the south. They make some of the best bread, and their bakery in Zabbar is open 24/7! Big Bun has recently opened a snack bar in Bulebel, serving some delicious dishes, ranging from the classics, like ftajjar and baguettes, to some killer specials, like octopus stew, stuffed chicken, lamb, and so much more. 👌
