Love hummus? Here’s a super easy hummus recipe for you! 😋

Do you know what today is? Yes, it’s Friday, but it’s also Hummus Day! Hummus has to be one of my favourite dips. It’s healthy, it’s delicious, and you can add it to almost any meal. The only issue I find is that when I get store-bought hummus in Malta, it’s usually either dry, full of excess oil, or full of additives and preservatives. 🙅

When I discovered how easy it is to make your own hummus, I started making it at home and never stopped. So if you’re still eating store-bought hummus, check out this recipe and start making your own! 🤩

All you need is just a few ingredients

You’ll probably have most of these ingredients in your pantry already, but if not, you can easily find them in any supermarket and in most grocery stores. Here’s what I use:

  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 2 tablespoons light tahini
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • A dash of hot sauce or cayenne pepper (optional)

Tip 1: do not fully drain the chickpeas. You can add some of that water (called aquafaba) to the recipe as it acts as a binder and makes your hummus creamier.

I have to be honest, I don’t really follow measurements anymore and just go with what my gut tells me, but this was the original recipe I started with. The hot sauce is purely optional. I only add it because I like the spice! 🌶️

Do you like hummus?

You can also use dried chickpeas instead of canned, but you will need to soak them in water overnight and then boil them before blending them. If you have time to spare, I suggest you go for this option as it does taste better. However, if time is of the essence, canned chickpeas are good too. ✌️

Tip 2: if you want to make your hummus extra fluffy, blend a couple of ice cubes with the rest of the ingredients!

Just blend everything together

Use any blender, food processor, or even a smoothie maker to blend all your ingredients together. Serve it with a drizzle of olive oil on top and alongside some pita bread, galletti, carrot sticks, or whatever suits your tastes. 😋

Easy, right? It will probably take you longer to clean the food processor than to actually make the hummus! Do you have any other hummus recipes or tips that you would like to share with us? Drop them in the comments! 👇
