How to Make Amazing Granola Bars at Home 🏡

If you know me and you’re reading this, I know what you’re thinking - Shanice, making something healthy?! Yes, I do like to give my body a break sometimes and feed it something healthy! Anyway, these granola bars taste so good that you won’t even realise that they’re good for you. 💪

I found this recipe in a random Facebook recipe group. The great thing about it is that it’s easy and you can add whatever you like as long as you have a good base.

Ingredients

The base for this recipe includes pitted dates and honey. As for additions, you will need oats, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and dried cranberries (not much, right?). Here are the exact amounts for all of your ingredients: 📏

  • 200g packed pitted Medjool dates
  • 90g honey
  • 140g rolled oats
  • 90g chopped almonds
  • 50g pumpkin seeds
  • 60g dried cranberries

How do you make the granola bars?

It’s quite simple, really. Before you make the mixture, prepare a baking tray with baking paper, leaving some of the baking paper hanging outside of the tray so that you can easily remove the bars later. 💁

1. To make the mixture, first you will need to process the dates and honey in a food processor until they form a thick paste. This may be a bit messy, since the paste will be quite sticky. But don’t worry, you’re almost done!

2. Mix the remaining ingredients in a separate bowl and add the date mixture to it. Combine everything with your hands. 🤲

3. Next, place the mixture onto your prepared tray and press down to create an even layer (approximately 1cm thick).

4. Freeze for about 30 minutes, and once firm, take the tray out of the freezer and cut the mixture into bars.

Ideas for additional ingredients

If you add more items to the current list of ingredients, you will probably need to increase the amount of date-honey mixture. Here are some other items you can add to your granola bars: 😋

  • Peanut butter
  • Dried apricots
  • Hazelnuts
  • Cashew nuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Chocolate chips
  • Make it all nutty by removing the fruit and adding different kinds of nuts: hazelnuts, cashews, almonds, pecans, walnuts, or peanuts
  • Make it all fruity by removing the nuts and adding different kinds of dried fruit: cranberries, apricots, bananas, prunes or raisins
  • Use peanut butter instead of dates

Will you be trying these out

Granola bars are quite easy to make, and if you don’t like any of the ingredients you can easily substitute them with something you like. Even if you’re not into healthy food, you will love these! They’re the perfect snack if you want to cut down on your unhealthy eating habits, and they will be ready in less than an hour. ⏰
