The Ultimate FoodBlog Bucket List: September 🍂

The Ultimate FoodBlog Bucket List: September 🍂

Take a breather folks, summer is almost over and cooler days are just around the corner. You’ll be able to eat your favourite soup in no time! Or am I the only one excited about the cooler days? Just like every other month, if you’re looking for things to do this September, here are some ideas for ya! 😎

Make your own burgers

To be quite honest with you, this is one of my favourite things to do. I rarely buy frozen burgers anymore. My go-to recipe for the patty is literally just chuck mince. This type of beef has a good ratio of meat to fat (80% / 20%), which makes the burgers juicy and super flavourful. Just form them into patties, refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes before cooking, and season each side with salt and pepper. 🧂

For toppings, I love to add sliced gouda, bacon and a homemade burger sauce using ketchup, mayo, finely chopped pickles and a teaspoon of pickle juice. Don’t forget to toast your beautiful burger buns before assembling everything together. If you’re feeling a tad extra, try recreating Chef Stephen La Rosa’s burger from our Gourmet Fast Food series! 🍔

Make Pistachio & Pomegranate Turkey meatballs

The start of September means the start of pomegranates because these gorgeous fruits finally come into season! These little beads of sweetness are good on their own, in salads, in pasta dishes, and even as garnishes. But this recipe for pistachio turkey meatballs with a pomegranate glaze seems like the ultimate lavish dish. If this is not your thing, Epicurious have a whole list of recipes with pomegranates! 😋

Have a brunch fest

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But if you want to sleep in and elevate your food game, brunch is the answer. The food served at brunch time is kinda breakfast food, but a bit more elegant. Grab your favourite people, choose your favourite recipes from this lot, make some mimosas, and forget about the rest of the world for a little while! 😌

If you’d rather head out, there are some killer brunch spots in Malta, like Two Buoys, Manouche Craft Bakery & Bistro, Danny’s, and JAVA. ✌️

Are you planning to chill or go all out this month?

Attend the Wine & Chocolate Pairing event

We haven’t seen many food-related events in a while because of all the restrictions, but as we’re making our way back to a normal life, things are changing! The first event that caught our eye was the Wine & Chocolate Pairing at the Malta Chocolate Factory. This started out in June but it happens every Tuesday and Friday up until the 28th of September. Wine AND chocolate? How can you say no? 🍫

Try out a new foreign cuisine

One of my very favourite food-related things to do is trying out new stuff, especially a new cuisine from a foreign country. Argentinian, Australian, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Serbian, Lebanese, Peruvian - you can find a restaurant for each of these cuisines in Malta! We’ll be publishing a list soon, so keep an eye out! 👀

Check out The Good Stuff

This place is sourdough excellence. Earlier this year, The Good Stuff opened up a bakery spot in San Gwann and an online shop where you can pre-order every one of their gorgeous sourdough treats. 🥐

They even have the ultimate sourdough-making essentials if you want to try making it yourself, including flour, sourdough starters and baking accessories. If you need some lessons on sourdough-making, you’re in for a treat - they have their very own workshop! 😍
