The most awaited Maltese summer feast is finally here. Most companies in Malta are, or are about to go, on shutdown right now. Except for the catering industry, of course, because otherwise, none of us would be able to go for lunch and cocktails in the sunshine or dinner as the sun is setting during our mini holiday season (and for that we are forever grateful). 🙏
Santa Maria is probably the biggest feast in Malta, so everyone will want to celebrate it in one way or another. As for myself, the only way I know (and love) how to celebrate, is through food. So here are our favourite 5 restaurants to visit on this beloved feast day: ✌️
D Kalkara Regatta
This is truly one of my favourite restaurants on the island. Situated at the beautiful Kalkara Marina with views of the Vittoriosa bastions and the sea, D Kalkara Regatta will exceed your expectations. The staff are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, the ambience is beautiful yet relaxing, and the food is marvellous. Let’s just say that I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed during the many times that I've been here. 😍
Hammett’s Macina (special event alert!)
Hammett’s Macina is always a superb place to visit, but to make things even better this time, they will be hosting a super special event on the 14th of August for the Santa Maria feast: Dinner Under the Stars. You will be able to experience a luxurious tasting menu at The Sheer Bastion, with beautiful views of the harbour, a stunning setting and the famous Santa Maria fireworks. Doesn’t that sound stupendous? 👌
The Gazebo Restaurant
You can never go wrong with The Gazebo Restaurant. Finesse, good food, a gorgeous location, and a tranquil atmosphere - what else could you want when you’re trying to wind down after a week’s worth of hard work? This beauty is located at Hilton Malta, so if you’re going to be off the next day, you could even spend the night! 🤩
Il-Forn ta' L-Ghawdxi
Il-Forn ta' L-Ghawdxi has recently upped their game with the opening of their brand new restaurant at the Valletta Waterfront. Obviously, they still serve their beloved ftira-base pizza (#teamGbejnietFriskiforlife), but now they also serve a variety of starters, pasta, platters, burgers and salads. That whole waterfront vibe combined with these guys’ stunning food is perfect for your Santa Maria night. 😎
One80 Kitchen & Lounge
This brand has made a name for itself (and for good reason). Whether you want to visit the One80 Kitchen & Lounge in Mellieha or the one in Mgarr, Gozo, either way, you will not be disappointed. Both restaurants boast gorgeous views and killer food, using the freshest ingredients available. Your food may look too pretty to eat, but it’s too delicious to leave it there! 🤤
