The FoodBlog Guide: the Grazing Board 😏

The FoodBlog Guide: the Grazing Board 😏

One thing is certain - Malta loves a good platter. Wine and platters are something we hold very dear to our hearts and certainly dark wintery evenings just wouldn’t be the same without a cosy glass (or bottle) of red and some savoury goodies to snack on.

Let’s have a look at the trend sweeping the interwebs of creating beautiful and impressive grazing boards to brighten up the bleakest of 2020 winter evenings. 🥰

Colour is key

To create a truly beautiful grazing board, colour is absolutely key. A great tip is to stick to the seasons for an “on-theme” grazing board - autumn and winter colours will add a touch of seasonal flair. Some autumnal ideas could be to include refreshing slices of oranges or citrus that are in season, beautiful jeweled pomegranates, orange-hued cheeses such as Red Leicester, and perhaps a wedge of cranberry-studded Wensleydale. Another top tip from the professionals is to keep colour “blocks” - with each area of the board featuring a particular colour for a more uniform look. 👌🏼

Highs and lows

Elevate your grazing board to a whole new level (pardon the pun) and play with height for a more professional and dramatic effect. You can get creative with what you use to create a riser - turn a small ramekin or bowl upside down on the board and use it as a rise to create some dimension. Get creative and have fun with it!

Keep it jam-packed

The secret to an impressive board is to make sure there are absolutely no gaps or holes between your goodies. The idea is that it looks really abundant. Feel free to use fruit (grapes would be a great example) to fill any visible pockets of space that appear once you’ve built your board.

So there you have it, some ideas to fuel your imagination and get building a gorgeous grazing board to impress! With it being 2020 and the era of social distancing, unless sharing with your social “bubble”, you could always create several small individual boards or platters to avoid any sharing issues.
