FoodCinema Part 1: Food series or movies you need to watch 🎬

I don’t know about you, but I just LOVE watching documentaries or docuseries about food (or anything similar). I’m not a big fan of competition shows when it comes to food. I’m more interested in the hows and the whats and the whys, so food documentaries are always my go-to. 👌

If you’re the same, you’re at the right place. If not, I still suggest you give at least one of these a go. Here are some of my favourite food series, documentaries, and even movies! 🎥

Somebody Feed Phil

On Netflix (Malta)? Yes

This is always my first recommendation when someone asks me what to watch. Phil Rosenthal travels the world and discovers cuisines, ingredients, and cultures with a big smile on his face. Somebody Feed Phil is one of those feel-good series that will fill your heart with happiness. 😍

Chef

On Netflix (Malta)? No

If you want to watch something that will push you to follow your dreams, watch Chef. This movie is about a chef who quits his job in a restaurant to pursue his dream and be creative in the kitchen, while also dealing with some family issues. It’s funny, it’s inspiring, and it might make you hungry. 👀

And after that, watch...

The Chef Show

On Netflix (Malta)? Yes

I absolutely love this one. The lead actor in Chef, Jon Favreau, and Chef Roy Choi cook some AMAZING dishes together, some of which were even in the movie Chef. Some guest stars (both chefs and non-chefs) also make an appearance in The Chef Show, but it’s so smooth-going, it feels like not even a single word is scripted. 👏

Which do you prefer when it comes to food series/movies?

Chef’s Table

On Netflix (Malta)? Yes

This is for those of you who are into gourmet food and the art of cooking. Each episode of Chef’s Table is about a different chef every time. The entire series is just a culinary masterpiece. There’s also Chef’s Table: France and Chef’s Table: BBQ. 🤩

Cooked

On Netflix (Malta)? Yes

This 4-episode series is super informative and insightful. Michael Pollan explores cooking through the four elements: fire, water, air, and earth. Watching Cooked has definitely made me want to delve deeper into the science of cooking (don’t be afraid of the word ‘science’! Everything is explained in very simple terms). 🤓

Ugly Delicious

On Netflix (Malta)? Yes

There’s no beating around the bush in this one. Chef David Chang explores different foods around the world while delving deeper into cultural barriers and misconceptions with some of his friends. Ugly Delicious is easy to watch while also making you feel like you’re part of the gang. 😎
