FoodBlog Bytes: Dieting 101. How to get started for a Healthier 2022 💪

FoodBlog Bytes: Dieting 101. How to get started for a Healthier 2022 💪

Let’s be honest, diets are the worst. In a perfect world, we could eat as much as we want, whenever we want without gaining any weight or having to face any health issues. 🤨

There comes a point in life where we just have to make some changes to our diet in order to maintain a lifestyle that keeps our physical and mental health in check. Diets are tedious for most of us, but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring (with the right mindset and food of course). Here are some tips on how you can start following a diet without it feeling too bad. 😏

Take Baby Steps

When you think about it, the thing that discourages us the most in starting and sticking to a diet is the big life change. Making any change in life is hard for everyone, especially when that change is drastic. If you go from a 0 to a 100, it’ll be much more difficult to stick to your diet. You can’t go from binging on burgers and brownies one day to eating just one bowl of lettuce the next day. Take baby steps to adapt to the change in food more smoothly. 🐢

Stop Tempting Yourself

Mentally, it’s easy to place yourself in a strong, health-oriented ‘bubble’ where the foods you shouldn’t eat are out of reach. Physically, however, it’s a whole other thing. Starting a diet with a fridge full of sugary, fatty and any type of food you want to avoid just won’t help you. Hide your tempting goodies in a sealed box, give them to your neighbours or donate them to the FoodBank. It’ll also feel really good to give any snacks you’re trying to stay away from to charity! Make sure you have plenty of home cooked snacks to keep you going! 🍫

Start The Day With A Hearty Breakfast

The #1 rule in dieting is starving yourself does not work! The more you restrict yourself from eating food, the more it’ll backfire. Skipping essential meals not only toys with your mental and physical health, but it also makes you more prone to overeat later on. The best way to avoid this is to start your day with a big, healthy breakfast. Not only is it proven that eating a full and nutritious breakfast before you begin the day is important, it’ll also keep you full for hours. This makes it easier to dive into your planned diet food throughout the day. 🍳

Do It With A Buddy

Everything is easier in life when done with a little extra help. Following a diet with a friend motivates you to stick to it, because if you don’t you’ll be letting both yourself and them down. Doing it with a buddy can also be great fun when you push and give each other ideas. It’ll also open the door to some diet food ideas you wouldn’t have thought of on your own. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Reward Yourself

Get your diet off to a good start by rewarding yourself every time you achieve a goal. Positively reinforcing your achievements will make you realise that a diet is a step in the right direction you’ve decided to take for yourself, not a punishment. It’ll not only ease you into following an eating plan regime, but also give you the motivation to keep going! A good way of rewarding yourself while still following a diet is to do a favourite activity like going to the cinema, buying yourself a small present or having an extra glass of wine at night. 💪
