Coffee 101: Here’s what these coffee names mean ☕
Coffee is an incredible thing, isn’t it? It can give you an extra boost of energy to improve your Monday morning and it can be made into so many different drinks. We’re so lucky to have so many coffee shops around Malta! 😌
There are a whole lot of coffee names and sometimes it can be difficult to remember what all of them are, so if you find yourself in that situation, here’s a list to help you out:
Americano
Simple and classy. The Americano is a good dose of caffeine with a milder strength than espresso. The combo is a shot of espresso and hot water. ☕
Flat White
A mix of espresso and steamed milk, this coffee is a comforting drink for anyone who likes their coffee with milk. The ratio is approximately half coffee and half steamed milk. 😍
Latte
The Latte has the same combo as the Flat White; espresso and steamed milk. However, in this case, the ratio is different. The amount of milk in a Latte is higher than that in a Flat White, hence the name “latte” (milk). 👌

Cappuccino
This one is probably one of the most popular drinks in the world. The Cappuccino includes a shot of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam. Just don’t order a cappuccino in the afternoon - at least in Italy. A cappuccino is more of a breakfast drink! 😋
Espresso Lungo
A classic drink to end a meal, the Espresso Lungo (long espresso) is just a normal espresso that has more water, so you have more to drink! 😏
Espresso Macchiato
Espresso Macchiato literally translates to “stained espresso”. In this case, the “stain” is the milk, since the Espresso Macchiato is an espresso shot combined with milk foam. ✌️
Espresso Affogato
Want some dessert-style coffee? This one’s for you! The Espresso Affogato is a shot of espresso with ice cream and it’s delicious. 🍨
