Last minute Christmas fix? Turkey doesn't have to be on the menu! πŸ¦ƒ

Last minute Christmas fix? Turkey doesn't have to be on the menu! πŸ¦ƒ

Why did the turkey cross the road? πŸ€” To escape the Christmas luncheon because he was tired of being the only thing anyone ever wants to cook come December. 🀣

Christmas does not equal turkey in my books. It used to, but I've been there, done it and have more than enough t-shirts to show.

I do enjoy a good turkey leg every now and then, but it goes amiss when you can generally only find them in stores once a year. But I always feel as though, when it comes to food, if you're playing it safe you're not playing at all. πŸ‘€

There's no fun to be had when you're serving up the same platter as every Dick and Doris around the world. Why not whack it right out of the park with some of these alternatives to the traditional Christmas lunch.

Beef Wellington πŸ₯©

The Beef Wellington is a FoodBlog staple. Tender, pink-hued beef wrapped up in golden puff pastry, stuffed and tucked with warm mushrooms

Never worry about having a golden crisp on your turkey skin again, because all a Beef Wellington needs to ensure an even colour is a light egg-wash. 🀩

Christmas Porchetta 🐷

For all intents and purposes, we added Christmas to the name. But porchetta is what it always will be: amazing

Stuff the rolled pork belly with rosemary, truffles and your stretchy cheese of choice and you've got a winning contender. πŸ†

Chicken Pot Pie πŸ₯§

We're not gonna argue that everyone has been in the same boat for 2020, but this one is a budget-friendly hunger-buster, guaranteed.

All you need is some chicken, pastry (or mash) and whatever veggies you like to fill your pies with. This also works well for any leftovers you may have at the back of the fridge or freezer.

Rack of Lamb πŸ‘

There's no doubt about it, lamb is a fabulous meat to use for family gatherings. It's sweet, soft and juicy, always. 🀀

You can coat the rack with pine nuts, cinnamon and orange zest to seal before putting into the oven for a real touch of Christmassy flavour but we figure you might not make it to the 25th to try this one out… and we don't blame you.

Roast Chicken πŸ—

Chicken gets a second mention because chicken is life. πŸ™

I've said it already, that I enjoy turkey. But I do prefer chicken. And if you're just a small group this year, one chicken should be enough for you. If you're a bigger group, having more than one chicken means you get to customise them each to suit everyone's taste. One for the lemon and garlic lovers, one for the rosemary and thyme.

And one for the little boy who lives down the lane… 🎢

Salmon en Croute 🐟

This one goes out to all those seafood fanatics - we see you!

Salmon en croute, or plainly put - a salmon Wellington - is a dish reserved for those of us with a lighter appetite come Christmas Day.

The best thing about meals at Christmas is that no two platefuls or servings are ever the same.

What makes it even easier to slide past tradition this year is the change we have seen in the world all year. Why not continue the trend as we begin the season finale of one of the longest years ever? 😫

If you need anything to remain the same, let it be the brussel sprouts. They're the real MVP at Christmas.

The FoodBlog family wish you all a happy and safe Christmas season, don't forget to tag us in your Christmas meals this year!
