Leftover treats? 5 things to do with your leftover Halloween candy 🍬

Halloween may not have been the same this year, but our love for all things sugar still had its time to shine this weekend. Maybe you bought some candy but didn’t get your usual crowd of trick-or-treating kids, or maybe you bought a bag of chocolates for yourself just in case it’s one of those days (we’re not judging). Either way, there’s a lot you can do with your Halloween candy other than just eating it.
Get Baking
What’s the most logical thing to do with chocolate? Make it into a dessert, of course! So put on that apron, and have some Sunday baking fun. 🍪
Here are some ideas to turn your basic bits and pieces into proper delicious treats:
Junkyard cake
Cookie bars loaded with mix-ins
Make some adult-only drinks
When you’re thinking in baking terms, it’s easy to figure out what to do with your chocolates, but what about the sweet or sour candies? Lucky for you, we’ve got a trick up our sleeves you’re sure to enjoy: you can make the absolute best-tasting liquors by letting candy sit in a bottle of alcohol. 🔞
This works best with sweets like Skittles, gummy bears, worms and any other gummy-based candy. For a basic infusion go for vodka or tequila, but you could really use any drink you like and match it up with the flavour of the candy - such as cola bottles and rum.
Put it in an Advent Calendar
Christmas is sooner than you think, and being prepared is never a bad idea. Instead of buying a calendar full of chocolates for your Christmas countdown, why not just prepare one yourself? You could go DIY and make your own calendar with little boxes, paper or fabric, or you could buy a reusable one with empty drawers, then fill with your favourite candies. Add a little more excitement to your December days - you deserve to treat yourself. 🍫
Keep it for a pinata
Seeing as we probably won’t go back to hosting parties anytime soon, upcoming birthdays require some extra out-of-the-box thinking. A fun activity you can do with family or roommates (keep it COVID-friendly) is to get crafty and make a pinata. Then, you get to stuff it with all your candy and wait for the day when you can whack it open. We all need something to look forward to in these trying times! đźŤ
Donate it
At the end of the day, if you’re lucky enough to have treats sitting around your house, remember that not everyone’s in the same boat. Donate your spare candy to food banks, orphanages or homeless shelters. It may not be the most nutritious, but for some, it’s a luxury, and it’s sure to put a smile on their face. 👍
