Take your time: 4 Juicy Slow-Cooker ideas to try out ♨️

A slow cooker can become your ultimate best friend, especially if you lead a busy life. If you don’t have much time to cook, all you need to do is gather up the ingredients, place everything in the slow cooker, and let everything cook while you go about with your day. 🤗

When cooking with a slow cooker, your food is left to slowly infuse with all the delicious flavours in the pot, and if you’re cooking meat, it becomes so tender that you can just pull it apart with a fork. A great tip for cooking meat in a slow cooker is to brown the meat in a pan with a tablespoon of oil beforehand, which helps to sear in the meaty flavour. 🍖

Whether you’re a newbie or an expert, here’s a few things that you can cook in your slow cooker:

1. BBQ Ribs

Don’t you just hate it when ribs are so dry that the meat sticks to the bones and they’re really tough to eat? Cooking them in a slow cooker avoids just that. All you need is enough ribs for your hungry guests and BBQ sauce. You can amp up your sauce by adding brown sugar and a bit of apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. For an extra kick, you can also add some hot sauce. 🌶️

Layer the ribs in your slow cooker, covering each piece in sauce (remember to save some of that sauce to serve with the ribs later). Leave it to cook on low for around 8 hours, serve, and have a feast!

2. Pulled Chicken

If you want to cook any kind of pulled meat, a slow cooker is your go-to appliance. With just a few ingredients, you can make the perfect pulled meat dish. For this recipe, let’s say you’re using chicken thighs. Just place the chicken in the slow cooker, add sliced onions, two cloves of crushed garlic, spices, and your favourite sauce (like peri-peri sauce), some wine, or a bit of water. 🍗

For spices, you can use a combination of Asian spices (ginger, cumin, cinnamon and chilli) or go for a spicy mix (cayenne pepper, chilli flakes, and fresh chilli peppers). Leave the chicken to cook on medium for 6 hours, or low for 8 hours. Make sure that there is enough liquid in the pot throughout the cooking time. You can serve it on rice or in a crunchy ciabatta.

3. Stew

A hearty stew just warms your soul right up, and when it’s left to cook slowly for a number of hours, it’s a bigger feast for your taste buds. What you have to do first is select your preferred meat - pork, chicken, beef, or just a mixture of your favourite veggies. 🍲

Add 3 chopped garlic cloves, chopped onions, carrots, and potatoes, a bit of tomato paste, and season them with salt, pepper, curry, paprika, and just a pinch of rosemary. Cover with broth - the flavour of this depends on what your main ingredient is (so if you’re using beef, use beef broth) - and let everything cook on low for 8 hours. Enjoy!

4. Cinnamon Rolls

A slow cooker does not only have to be used for savoury dishes. A number of desserts can be cooked in a slow cooker, one of which is cinnamon rolls. We just love this amazing recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction, so we want to share it with you. 😋
